About Me

Hi, my name is Miss Van Houten and I am so excited to be the music teacher at Rosewood Elementary and Sandy Hill Elementary! I am passionate about creating a positive learning environment for all students in the music room so students feel comfortable and encouraged to express themselves musically. It is a goal of mine to have students look forward to coming to my class each week. I am a recent graduate of Western Michigan University where I received my Bachelor of Music in Choral/General Music Education. I was a member of the world renown vocal jazz group, Gold Company and also participated in other various choral ensembles during my college career. In 2017, I was cast as the lead female role in WMU's opera production "Embarrassing Position" by Dan Shore. I love performing on stage have a lot of experience performing classical, jazz, and musical theater genres. In my spare time I love to be on the water and be outside as much as possible. I make it a priority to grow as a singer through performing experiences such as weddings and church services. My family loves to travel which most of the time includes a stop at our favorite destination, Walt Disney World! I am so excited to get to know your child and help them grow to be Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful people.
